John Jaffe Woodwinds Studio News

John Jaffe, Clarinet Masterclass

I am recently retired from the Private Instructor Faculty at New Trier High School, where I taught clarinet and saxophone for the last 10 years, and am accepting students for instruction at my home studio in Rogers Park on the North Side of Chicago.

I have 40 years experience teaching, and have placed clarinet students consistently in major music programs throughout the area including Midwest Young Artists Orchestras. My students currently are principal clarinet in the New Trier Symphony Orchestra, New Trier Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Evanston Township High School Symphony Orchestra, Evanston Township High School Symphonic Wind Ensemble, as well as adult students from local Community Bands.

In addition my students currently are Lead Alto Saxophone in the ETHS Jazz ensembles. Other saxophone students are currently in the Jazz Ensembles at ETHS and New Trier. Most double on clarinet and flute as well.

In my Jazz studio we emphasize jazz conception and improvisation.

I hold a performance degree in Applied Clarinet from Northwestern University where I was a student of Robert Marcellus, Clark Brody, and Larry Combs.

I am available for instruction on Clarinet, Saxophone, and Flute.
